However, some women continue to experience menopausal symptoms for a decade or longer after the menopause transition. As a result of a lower level of estrogen, postmenopausal women are at increased risk for a number of health conditions, such as osteoporosis and heart disease.

    At the ripe old age of 42, I started heading into premature menopause. Overnight I went from a happy go lucky gal to a hot mess! I was waking up multiple times in the night drenched in sweat, sex drive ….ahh what sex drive? Hot flashes all throughout the day, missing periods, breast tenderness for weeks at a time, 10 pound weight gain all in the belly, grey hair and fine lines popping up daily this wasn’t fun!

    I thought no way that I the nutritionist, health nut would be so affected by this transition and at such an early age. I believe many women think that because they are healthy, eat right , exercise that they will go through this time unscathed. Unfortunely that is not the case and over 80% of women will suffer for 8-10 years on average as they transition from peri to post menopause.

    Where do women go during this time for help? Their doctors? Their friends? Mothers?

    Midlife women are not getting the help they need because all of those people above tend to know very little, if anything, about how to treat hormone imbalances. The doctors solutions tend to be birth control (toxic, ruins the gut, lowers hormones, increases risk of stroke, shrinks the brain, increases risk of breast cancer), hysterectomy, anti depressants, sleeping medication, ablations or poor they give out poor advice like eat less exercise more!
