Why the Weight?
Diet
Your weight gain is likely due from eating the wrong so called healthy foods. Do you eat any of the following foods on a regular basis: margarine, vegetable oil, whole wheat bread and or pasta, brown rice, legumes, oats, artificial sweeteners like Splenda or equal, no fat artificially sweetened yogurt, soy products, milk, and low fat cheese? These have all been touted as “healthy” foods but unfortunately can be damaging to your health and weight. They can be the host of different issues such as blood sugar spikes, leaky gut, nutrient deficiencies and inflammation all of which can contribute to weight gain, food sensitivities, hormonal imbalance and ultimately weight loss resistance.
What can you do about it?
Eliminate these foods from your diet and see if they help you to lose weight. Margarine, gluten, artificial sweeteners should, in my opinion and the opinion of many other health professionals, be completely avoided because of their damaging effects on health. Try following a paleo based diet which naturally eliminates all of the above food.

Why the Weight?
Hormones
Mood swings, water retention, PMS, menopause, thinning hair, insomnia, anxiety, depression, weight around the middle a.k.a. muffin top, hot flashes, and of course inability to lose weight are some of the signs that you could have hormone imbalance.
What can you do about it?
The hormonal system is extremely complex and each individual will need a personalized plan to meet their needs. The biggest driving factor of hormonal imbalance is stress. When your body is stressed it secretes a hormone called cortisol. Cortisol is like the alpha hormone, the big steroid guy that bullies all the other hormones into hiding, so they can’t be used properly by your body. Try incorporating stress relieving techniques into your life on a daily basis. Supplements that can help support hormonal imbalance are Vitamin B’s and vitamin C, adrenal support formulas and chaste-berry (vitex).
Eat a Paleo or Keto based diet to reduce inflammation and correct digestive issues which will have a strong impact on your hormonal health. You can have your hormones checked with an at home hormone kit order here: https://karenmartel.com/hormone-test-kits/

Why the Weight?
Digestion
Bad digestion, abdominal pains, acid reflux, chronic aches and pains, bloated, constipation and/or diarrhea, IBS, skin rashes are some of the signs that you could have food sensitivities which could also be causing your weight loss resistance.
Food sensitivities are extremely common now days and are different then a food allergy. Research suggests that how well our metabolism functions is a key factor in weight loss or gain, and some of the foods that are most likely to trigger intolerance are known to disrupt our metabolism. Food sensitivities can create a host of symptoms including inflammation, water retention and digestive problems all major causes of weight loss resistance.
What can you do about it?
Remove the offending foods for at least 4 weeks, the 7 foods most likely to cause food intolerances are dairy, gluten, eggs, soy, peanuts, corn, sugar and artificial sweeteners. At the end of the 4 weeks add each one back in one at a time and monitor your response. (Note: removing soy, peanuts, corn, sugar and artificial sweeteners should stay out of your diet completely or as much as possible). If symptoms return including weight gain take them out of your diet indefinitely.

Why the Weight?
Stress
Do you feel wired but tired, over scheduled and like you can’t keep up? Do you have insomnia, anxiety, racing thoughts, extra weight on your stomach and cravings for fat and salt?
These could be signs that you are too stressed which could be causing weight loss resistance. Stress raises the hormone cortisol, which is your fight or flight hormone. When your cortisol levels remain high for a long period of time it signals to your body to store fat, cortisol not only will store your fat but will also increase insulin levels and insulin is the fat storage hormone. To make matters worse high cortisol increases blood sugar to help get you through the stressful situations, but high blood sugar = increased sugar cravings.
What can you do about this?
Manage your stress, start taking time for yourself, higher a house keeper, spend more time outdoors, get a massage, have a daily meditation practice, do yoga or anything else that feeds you and doesn’t take away your energy but gives it to you. Try adrenal support formulas, Vitamin B complex and Vitamin C have both been proven to lower serum cortisol levels. Try following a Paleo or Ketogenic based diet to lower inflammation and blood glucose levels which both have an impact on cortisol secretion.
