Having a happy liver is one of the key elements to your overall health and vitality.
When the liver is stressed it affects digestion, sleep, vascular pathways, the immune system, skin, weight and your hormonal system! That is why every change of season I like to do a liver cleanse!Today I'm going to share six signs that might mean your liver is not up to par and information about my 21 Day Transformational Cleanse (on special for the month of June). It might be just what you need to kick start your liver back into action!
1.Troubles digesting fatty foods
One of the most important roles the liver has is producing bile. Bile is composed of water, bile salts, bilirubin cholesterol, and inorganic salts. Bile plays an important role in the digestion and absorption of lipids and also fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K. When your liver is under stress you may have problems digesting fatty foods.Solution: taking ox bile ( yes - it is exactly what you think it is - bile from an ox) can help assist your liver in breaking down those fatty foods and absorbing all those great fatty acids like Vitamin A, D, E and K! You can also take something called bitters. Bitters are herbal infusions made from bitter herbs. They stimulate your liver to produce more bile and work more efficiently.
2.Hormonal imbalances like PMS or menopausal symptoms
Your liver is a key regulator of hormones, a dysfunctional liver can result in abnormal levels of estrogen and testosterone (male/female hormones). An imbalance of these hormones can lead to weight gain. The liver plays a role in regulating thyroid hormones and insulin dysregulation of these hormones can result in hypothyroidism, hypoglycemia, insulin resistance, and type 2 diabetes.Solution: Be nice to your liverincluding ditching the alcohol . Alcohol consumption raises estrogen levels and slows down fat burning! Just two servings a day for four weeks has been shown to raise estrogen levels by 22 percent! Take supplements on a daily basis to support the liver and endocrine system. This includes Milk Thistle, dandelion and N-acetyl cysteine all powerful liver support and detoxification supplements.
3. Acne or skin rashes
An impaired liver cannot adequately eliminate toxins that are then pushed out through the skin, which encourages acne-causing bacteria to grow. Solution: Support phase 1 and 2 detoxification pathways. One way you can do this by getting enough zinc. Zinc deficiency can alter Phase I detoxification in the body. This is when the liver uses oxygen and enzymes to change the toxins into a more water soluble form so that they can easily be excreted by the kidneys or bile (instead of through your skin). Zinc is found in abundance in animal products and certain foods like pumpkin seeds, but you can also take a zinc supplement. Zinc is also one of the top supplements to help combat acne. Get enough amino acids. Amino acids are used in phase two of detoxification. This is when your bodies oxidized chemicals are combined with sulfur, specific amino acids, or organic acids, and then excreted. You can get amino acids through protein, nuts, seeds and beans.4. Digestion issues including gas, heartburn, bloating, diarrhea or constipation, and abdominal pain.
The liver plays an important role in the digestion and processing of proteins, fat and sugar. You can think of your liver as an accessory organ to the digestive system. We make bile from the liver to help break down fat, it helps maintain normal blood glucose levels and helps process protein cells.Solution: support your digestive system with a full spectrum digestive enzyme that contains HCL and ox bile added to it. This will take some of the load off your liver. Change your diet to a whole foods diet and remove harmful foods that are creating too much burden on the liver.
5. Fatigue
If your liver is being bogged down with a lot of toxins and working too hard for long periods of time you can easily begin to feel fatigued.Solution: detoxify your home removing all chemicals. Buy organic and grass fed meats. Support the liver detoxification pathways (see above).Take infrared saunas, exercise, yoga and meditation.
6. Weight loss
When the liver is functioning sub-optimally, it cannot convert nutrients to their bio-available forms. Therefore, many nutrients pass through the body without being absorbed. Without proper nutrients food craving will increase, fatigue will set in and your metabolism will slow. Not only that if your liver is impacting your hormones the imbalance will also impact your ability to lose weight. As you can see some today’s top health complaints are directly affected by how well our liver is running and being supported. Unfortunately, majority of the cleanses you can buy off the shelf only support phase one of detoxification. This means your body will detoxify the toxins but without the proper nutrients in place they won’t be able to get carried out of the system and can will get reabsorbed or turn into free radicals! It is why I developed my 21 Day Transformational Cleanse to help people properly cleanse their liver through phase 1 and 2 detoxification pathways and by eating the right foods to help your body rejuvenate itself.
