Healing Through Food with Cristina Curp
Sometimes we think we are eating really well because we are eating so called "healthy foods". Foods like green peppers, nuts, low fat dairy, eggs etc. are often touted as healthy and are part of many weight loss regimes. However all of those foods just mentioned and many more can be extremely problematic for some people. You see some foods like nightshade's which include peppers, tomatoes and potatoes are a member of Solanaceae family of plants with strong ties to inflammatory action. They contain problematic compounds like calcitriol, solanine, nicotine and capsaicin and have been linked to chronic pain, arthritis and an increase in intestinal permeability. If a person has problematic issues with these types of foods it can cause issues like
- Anxiety
- Joint pain
- Acne
- Bad breath
- Puffy eyes and face
- Stubborn weight loss
- Dizziness
- Poor memory
- Brain fog/Foggy thinking
- Arthritis
- Eczema
Other foods like eggs and dairy are some the most common food sensitivities in people!
My guest in this week's podcast Cristina Curp knows all too well that if you have any of these food sensitivities it is near impossible to lose weight no matter how well you are eating. Cristina and I have an honest conversation about what it really takes for some people to lose weight. How diet and the foods you eat may need to be altered in order to feel better, reverse autoimmune conditions and breakthrough weight loss plateaus.
After hitting her own rock bottom with a number of mystery symptoms and a diagnosis of an autoimmune disorder Cristina took to the kitchen to find wellness. Using her kitchen prowess and love of research, she began to discover the connection between her symptoms and the food she ate.
This ongoing experiment birthed her blog, which is a collection of inventive, allergen-friendly, low carb, whole-food recipes that have helped her reverse autoimmune disease, lose weight, and take control of her own health and well-being.
Cristina Curp is a certified Nutritional Therapy Practitioner and former restaurant chef.
Her love of food, and particularly using real food to heal, birthed her popular food blog and wellness site, TheCastawayKitchen.com. Author of Made Whole cookbook and co-host of Kitchen Table Talks Podcast.Cristina Curp
